TEAM SANCHEZ BOXER EARNS BRONZE MEDAL AT U.S.A. WESTERN OLYMPIC TRIALS

Colorado's 165-pound state and regional Golden Gloves Boxing Champion Stepan Zeytunyan earned a bronze medal at last weeks western Olympic trials.

Zeytunyan was robbed of his Olympic dream in the semifinals of the western trials held in Salt lake city, Utah. Zeytunyan was 2-0 with 2 kO's going into the semifinal round. He faced Kelly Max Buchanan from Teague, Texas. Buchanan trailed throughout his semifinal contest with Zeytunyan, and went into the final round down by a 9-3 margin. Zeytunyan was ahead on all score cards in the final round, without a prior warning and with 5 seconds left in the fight the referee stopped the action and deducted two points from Zeytunyan for holding. The final judges decision was 15-13 for Buchanan. Zeytunyan and coach Frankie Sanchez were shocked by the decision. The crowed also disagreed with the terrible decision and the fight was protested. The head director overruled the protest and advanced Buchanan to the gold medal round.

After a speculator amateur career in boxing, and a amazing performance at the western Olympic trials, Frankie Sanchez Promotions has offered Stepan Zeytunyan a professional boxing contract. Zeytuiyan has agreed to fight for the ISKA national kickboxing belt in June and then turn pro in August under the Frankie Sanchez banner.

Frankie Sanchez on the set of the new movie Rocky Balboa

Frankie served as an extra in the fight scenes of Rocky Balboa filmed at the Mandalay Bay event center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sanchez filmed for 12 hours on the set, Sanchez said " I did not see myself in the final film, but I learned so much just watching Stallone work. He is a great actor and a great producer. It is a great movie and I am blessed to be part of it. I hope everyone goes out to see it".

ROCKY BALBOA (2006)

Former heavyweight champion Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) steps out of retirement and back into the ring, pitting himself against a new rival decades after his initial glory. When a computer simulated boxing match declares Rocky Balboa the victor over current champion Mason "The Line" Dixon, the legendary fighter's passion and spirit are reignited. But when his desire to fight in small, regional competitions is trumped by promoters calling for a rematch of the cyber-fight, Balboa must weigh the mental and physical risks of a high profile exhibition match against his need to be in the ring.

THE CONTENDER SEASON 2 INTERVIEW WITH FRANKIE SANCHEZ

This proud pugilist auditioned for the second season of The Contender with 34 years on his body and 29 professional fights on his record. He works as a college counselor and part time promoter/coach to support his family. He took fights on short notice, boxed with far less than ideal preparation, and suffered setbacks, such as a dubious decision loss to prospect Panchito Bojado on Showtime in 2002. His less than sterling record may have caused many to overlook him, including the great Sugar Ray Leonard, the face of the show.
His name is Frankie Sanchez and on September 26,2006 the unsung Colorado native did not step into the ring with a chance of winning $500,000.00 He watched the live ESPN show from his home in Clark Farms. The man who served as the opponent to Champions Kermit Cintron, Kelly Pavlik, David Diaz and others had his chance at the Contender season 2, but said he has “no regrets.”
Despite his busy schedule, Sanchez took time to speak with Rocky Mountain Sports about The Contender and related topics.

First, congratulations on all your success. How does it feel to know you could have been in the finals of the Contender season 2 this week?
Thanks, It feels good to know that I could have been in the finals against Steve Forbes, but I believe that all things happen for a reason and it was not my time. The producers have already contacted me about season 3, they are going to have 3 weight classes this time light heavy weight, Jr. Middleweight and lightweight. I do not know if I will do it, I have so many good things going on in my life at this time so only time will tell.

You fought contender semifinalist Noberto Bravo in Okalahoma on worldwide television in June of 2003. Everyone who saw the fight live new you won and the scorecards they posted on TV had you winning the fight five rounds to three. The judges gave him the decision and you the loss. What did that do to your career?
To tell you the truth it ended my dreams for a world championship belt. I new in my heart that I won that fight. Bravo even new he lost; you could see it in his face. After the fight I just told my dad I was going to fight for the money from now on. That is what I did. I fought the best fighters in the world just for the money.

What is it about this opportunity that is so great – is it the money or the potential glory that could have come with being on the show?
I knew during my audition in Los Angels that that they would pick me to be on the show if my weight class was selected. I was just very professional. The contender staff told me I was perfect for the show and even said I was the best dressed for the auditions. They called me three times after the auditions and told me that if Noberto Bravo or Grady Brewer pulled out, I would be on the show.

How difficult was it to watch the show knowing that Noberto Bravo earned a spot on the final card?
It was difficult. I watched the show every week just to support him. I really wanted him to win the belt, but like I said before it was just not his time. The bad decision I got when I fought Bravo repeated back to him when he fought Brewer.

Do you think that some people underestimated how tough a fighter you were?
I would have to say yes and no. They new they had an advantage over me with me taking fights on short notice and not having enough time to prepare properly. Promoters and fighters new my record was not the best, but when they asked to fight me they new it was going to be a war and an exciting fight every time.

In the semifinals of the contender, Brewer was knocked down by Bravo near the end of the first round. What were you thinking at that moment?
After the knock down I was sure Bravo would win the fight and I do believe he did, but the judges took it away from him like they did to me when Bravo and I fought.

What are your future goals in boxing?
I want to fight a few more times, but enjoy promoting fighters. I train and manage about 60 fighters in boxing and UFC fighting. I do not want them to get taken advantage of like most fighters do in this corrupt sport.

Would you like to avenge the losses on your record?
No, I just want people to know that I was at that level. I was a real world contender and I had my shot. I fought for 3 titles and gave it my all. I want my two sons to know that at one time in my pro career I was one of the top contenders in the world in my weight class. I fought the best and gave it my all in every fight.

Do you have any predictions for the final?
I think Steve Forbs will win by decision and Bravo will beat K-9 by a decision. The fights will be exciting.

What motto do you live by?
Live every day to the fullest because it could be your last.

What message or messages would you like to leave with your fans out there?
Thank you for the support and God bless

TEAM SANCHEZ DOMINATES XTREME FIGHT NIGHT #2

Saturday July 22,2006 was a great night for the stable of TEAM SANCHEZ trained fighters. Eight out of the eight fights were won by submission or knockout and eight of the fights were won by fighters trained by Frankie Sanchez.

The Ski-Hi event center in Monte vista, Colorado hosted the Xtreme fight night card that was sanctioned by the Colorado Boxing Commission. Over 1,000 people attended the speculator event that included a fighter autograph signing, ring girl contest, live DJ, a free trip for two to Mexico, cancer fundraiser and eight great action packed No Holds Barred fights.

In the first fight of the night, two time wrestling All American Angelo Duarte from Team Sanchez earned his first win when he took down and arm barred tough Zack Villagomez in under two minuets of the first round.

Jonathon “The Guardian” Fife (Team Sanchez) earned respect from the crowd and Paul Maze when he submitted Maze at 2:33 of round one with a Camorra lock.

Pueblo native PJ Sierra (Team Sanchez) proved tough as nails when he submitted veteran Steve Avila with a rear naked choke at 2:15 of the first round.

Former two time state wrestling champion and 2x NCAA All American from Albuquerque, New Mexico Brian Pitts (Team Sanchez) earned his first NHB win when he out boxed and then ko’d Jeremy Martinez of Alamosa, Colorado.

3x Tennessee wrestling state champion Ramon Dunning (Team Sanchez) entered the ring with his fighting gloves and banjo only to make it a short night and sing a sad song to his opponent Jason Zamora. Dunning showed that he was not only great on the ground, but that his stand up game was improving when he stopped Zamora with a uppercut in the first round.

In a much anticipated fight, Montrose state champion Dusty Vaughn (Team Sanchez) stopped JJ Mondragon of Greeley, Colorado in under two minuets of the first round. Vaughn dropped Mondragon with a right hand and then continued to punish him with punches until the referee stepped in at the end of round one.

Heavyweight Dustin Weyers (Team Sanchez) entered his first fight with a broken hand. and showed 234 lb Daylon Glover from Lubbock, Texas that high altitude and training are what make champions.

In the main event of the night local fighter Roger Reyes (Team Sanchez) showed the community and his opponent Manny Aguilar from Los cruces, New Mexico that he is a force to be reckoned with in the NHB world. Reyes destroyed Aguilar with an non stop stand up attack and ended the night with a first round knock out punch at :45 seconds of the first round.

It was announced at the end of the show that TEAM SANCHEZ stable mates Roger Reyes and Angelo Duarte will collide in the main event against each other in the next Xtreme fight night. The bad blood between the two has heated up to a boiling point and now the truth will come out to see who is the real deal and who will walk away the champion.

The next Xtreme fight will be announced in two weeks, but fight promoter Joe Garcia said it could be as early as September

December 3rd 2004 – LOSS BY Decision - Frankie Sanchez vs. Gabriel “Hurricane” Holguin

Sanchez goes the distance with middleweight champion

Frankie Sanchez once again proved to the boxing world that he is tougher than a junk yard dog on Friday night in Laredo, Texas.  Sanchez moved up to the middleweight division to take on 3x Texas Middleweight Champion Gabriel Holguin of Laredo, Texas. Holgiun is a contender in the world ranks of boxing and Sanchez gave him all he could handle during the eight round boxing fight.

Holguin did not look overly impressive during the fight and Sanchez walked through every thing Holguin gave him. Sanchez was fighting three weight classed above his normal welterweight limit of 147 pounds. Sanchez also took the fight on a 12 day notice and only had six days in the gym to prepare for the fight. Sanchez stated after the fight “ I did my best with the time they gave me and I went the distance with a true middleweight champion. I was overweight and got real tired in the second round, but was not going to let him knock me out. I proved to everyone that I can hang with the big boys”. Sanchez also proved out of the ring that he is a true professional.

During the weigh in on Thursday, Holguin came in five pounds over the contract weight. Sanchez allowed Holguin to not have to make the original contract weight and decided to fight him anyway. The fight was televised live on the Spanish station Telefutura and was the co-main event for the WBA Super Flyweight World Title Fight.

June 20th 2004 – Exhibition – Frankie Sanchez vs. Art Medina

POOR BOYS PRO BOXING PRESENTS

World Class Professional Boxing on Sunday, June 20th 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time. At the Mountain High Casino in Blackhawk Colorado.  The exhibition fight which, for many boxing fans in Colorado, will be the main event as Frankie “The Educator” Sanchez (13-12-1 7 KO’s) attempts to avenge his controversial loss to Art Medina (12-11 5 KO’s). Despite their similar records, both fighters’ careers appear to be moving in different directions as Sanchez has lost his last six while Medina has won six straight (including his split decision victory over Sanchez). Still, few doubt that Sanchez and Medina will both be coming to fight; many are anticipating an entertaining brawl.

Below article by Dave Rondo at ringside

Jim Smith’s Poor boys pro boxing at The Mountain High Casino in Blackhawk, Colorado brought the crowd another pleasing night of action. In the co main event exhibition fight, welterweight Frankie “The Educator” Sanchez from nearby Aurora, proved far too powerful and skillful for stable mate Art “All Heart” Medina.

Sanchez began displaying a powerful left hook as he staggered Medina backward. By the end of round one Medina’s nose bled and breathed hard, deep breaths between rounds.

Round two opened with Sanchez striking a right hook that sent Medina across the canvas and into the ropes. Medina called on Sanchez bravely to hit him in the body only to suffer an onslaught of a left uppercut and right cross to the head.

Round three and four were all in favor of Sanchez as he showed the Colorado crowd why he is a world-class boxer. Sanchez had fun with Medina and even stuck his tong out at the frustrated Medina on occasion. Sanchez than hit him with a number of unanswered punches and a quick shoeshine to end the fight.

Sanchez stated after the fight that he was nice to Medina during the exhibition. He said that Medina is set to fight in Las Vegas this weekend and he did not want to hurt him for his upcoming fight. Sanchez last fight was a very controversial loss to Medina. Sanchez said “I wanted to show the Colorado judges who judged my last fight with Medina that they were wrong. They gave the wrong fighter the win last time and that it was a mistake. I respect Medina, but also wanted to show him that he did not beat me last time, the judges beat me”.

Frankie "The Educator" Sanchez took on up and coming prospect Dmity Salita tonight on HBO in Phoenix, AZ. Despite losing a unanimous decision (60-54 x 3), he gave a great showing and received a standing ovation for the effort, on an otherwise dismal card in which the main event and chief support bout ended early with second round KO's.

From BoxingTalk.net, by Andy Rivera
Dmitry Salita to a big step up in competition as Salita battled tough Frankie Sanchez. Salita who has been criticized for his quality of opposition showed he could dig down deep, when he is pressed. Sanchez came to fight and never took a step backwards, but it was Salita who kept landing more frequently and looked to have improved tremendously since his last outing. Salita remains undefeated at 17-0, while Sanchez dropped to 13-11. Salita captured a unanimous decision by scores of 60-54.

Frankie Sanchez Wins by Unanimous Decision

June 8th 2001 - Adams State Alumnus and Pro Boxer Frankie Sanchez continued his reign with another win.  This time by unanimous decision over Robert Howard, in a 4-round main event Friday night in Denver.

Sanchez who boxed with former World Boxing Council champion Oscar De La Hoya as an amateur was more than ready for the younger, more experienced Howard. Most of the spectacular action occurred in the middle of the ring, with Sanchez giving Howard boxing lessons for two rounds, picking his punches with methodical care and quickly collecting points with the judges.

At the end of the fourth round Sanchez bombarded Howard with a variety of jabs, hooks and a vicious uppercut. Howard managed to stay upright and was still recovering from the crunching right uppercut when Sanchez landed a short right cross. It was the beginning of the end when Sanchez snapped Howard’s head sideways with that devastating right to the jaw. Sensing the finish, Sanchez then stepped in with two solid lefts and a right as the Kansas City southpaw was saved by the final bell.

Sanchez who won the match by unanimous decision was pleased with the outcome of the fight.  "This was a big event and I wanted to make a statement.
