Boxing Voted The Toughest Of All Sports

Last month ESPN ran the results of a study it compiled entitled, "Degree of Difficulty: Sports Rankings." Of the 60 sports rated, boxing was recognized as the sport that "demands the most from the athletes who compete in it." The eight-member panel was made up of "sports scientists from the United States Olympic Committee, of academicians who study the science of muscles and movement, of a two-sport athlete, and of journalists who spend their professional lives watching athletes succeed and fail." The sports were judged in 10 categories on a scale from 1 to 10: Endurance, Strength, Power, Speed, Agility, Flexibility, Nerve, Durability, Hand-Eye Coordination, and Analytic Aptitude. Boxing scored an 8.0 or above in five separate categories, an accomplishment equaled by no other sport. (Football finished second with an 8.0 or above in three categories).
